Noord-Holland aims to be climate-neutral by 2050. The province Noord-Holland intends to achieve this by creating Clean Energy Hubs for mobility. A Clean Energy Hub is a refueling, charging, or bunkering station with at least 2 alternative sustainable energy sources, primarily focused on heavy goods transport. The Dutch government and the province view hydrogen as a crucial component for some of these hubs. To drive this development, the government provides subsidies through the Hydrogen in Mobility Subsidy Scheme (SWiM subsidy) and the province offers free development support.
The SWiM subsidy from the government focuses on developing hydrogen refueling stations and acquiring hydrogen vehicles. Companies can receive reimbursement of up to 40% of the project costs for the construction or upgrade of hydrogen refueling stations, with a maximum contribution of €2 million. Additionally, investments in zero-emission hydrogen vehicles can receive up to 80% subsidy, capped at €4 million per application. Therefore, a consortium can receive a total of €6 million. The total available subsidy fund amounts to €22 million for the current application period from July 15 to September 6, 2024.
Furthermore, the province of Noord-Holland offers free development support to entrepreneurs who need assistance in forming a consortium to apply for the SWiM subsidy. Development facilitators also assist entrepreneurs in submitting a successful subsidy application.
